On August 21st, 2016, Miguel Cabrera hit this ball for the 2,471st knock of his Major League career, tying him with fellow Triple Crown winner Joe Medwick on the all-time hit list. This game, a contest between the Tigers and Red Sox, finished 10-5 as Justin Verlander picked up his 13th win of the season. Cabrera picked up his hit in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single against Henry Owens, scoring later in this inning on Justin Upton’s three-run home run. Incidentally, this was the final game at Comerica Park for Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who retired at the end of the 2016 season.

This baseball is an Official Major League Robert D. Manfred Jr. baseball, and it shows ample evidence of use. Cabrera signed the sweet spot of the baseball in black pen, inscribing “2471th [sic] Hit” underneath his signature. This item comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JB 846677).
