Offered is a painting on canvas of Shoeless Joe Jackson, in his Chicago White Sox uniform, in the style of a 1958 Topps baseball card. The 28 ½ x 39 ¼ inch unframed canvas painting has a green painted line and backdrop on white canvas, with a head and shoulder image of Jackson in a white White Sox uniform with pinstripes and his glove tucked into his back pocket. Jackson is holding his bat in his left-handed pose with a triangle White Sox logo beneath the knob of the bat. Above his image is the legend “Joe Jackson” painted in yellow and below the image is a red border box that has “O.F.” in black and “CHICAGO WHITE SOX” in yellow letters.
The artist, Arthur K. Miller, has signed the canvas in the lower center on the green to the right of Jackson’s waist with blue marker, while on the back of the canvas the artist has signed his name in black marker and inscribed “A Card That Never Was: Joe Jackson (1958 Topps)” on the bottom left, written “2016” in the center, and signed his name in black marker on the bottom right. Miller is renowned for his paintings under the umbrella title “The Art of the Game”.
