Henry Chadwick was known as the “Father of Baseball” due to his contributions and reporting during the early days of baseball in the mid-to-late 19^th century. Chadwick has been credited with creating the box score, the batting average and earned run average statistics, and was the editor of the first baseball guide sold to the public. A native of Exeter, England, Chadwick moved to Brooklyn at the age of 12 where he resided until his death in 1908 at the age of 83.

For his numerous accomplishments and contributions, Chadwick was presented with this offered trophy cup by The Society of Old Brooklynites in and or around 1900. This very rare item is made of silver and this trophy is approximately 10 inches high and five inches in diameter. The cup itself has two rounded handles on each side and the silver cup is mounted on a 2 ½ inch high, 5 ¼ inch diameter wood base. On the front of the trophy is a raised floral pattern that has engraved in the middle “Presented to Henry Chadwick ON YOUR GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY IN JOURNALISM FROM THE SOCIETY OF OLD BROOKLYNITES”. The trophy is in excellent condition with a bright shine on the silver and only small abrasions on the edges of the wood base.
