Veteran hurler David Wells wore this road jersey during the 2003 MLB season, his fourth and final year with the New York Yankees. Despite turning 40 during the season, “Boomer” turned in a vintage performance by compiling a record of 15-7 with a respectable 4.14 ERA for a Yankee team that won 101 games and advanced to the World Series. In his final 2003 start, a home matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, Wells won the 200th game of his career. Wells threw 7.2 innings, allowing only one run in the Yankees, who were managed by Roger Clemens for one day, 3-1 victory. Wells pitched four more seasons in the Major Leagues, retiring in 2007 after a stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This gray, button down jersey has “NEW YORK” sewn across the chest in navy blue and white tackle twill. Wells’ number “33” is sewn on the back of the jersey in navy blue and white tackle twill beneath a MLB logo patch. A Yankees 100th Anniversary patch is sewn on the left sleeve. A Russell Athletic tag with attached size “56” and “2[inch] Extra Length” flags is sewn on the front left tail above a “2003 BOOMER” tag. This jersey, which shows light wear, comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
