Joe Frazier was a Hall of Fame boxer and undisputed World Heavyweight Champion in addition to being an Olympic gold medalist in boxing. “Smokin’ Joe” was 32-4-1 with 27 KOs in his career, including a win by unanimous decision over Muhammad Ali in 1971’s “Fight of the Century.” In the later years of his life, Frazier owned and operated a popular gym on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. Frazier had used this facility during his boxing career to train for fights, including the 1971 “Fight of the Century” bout with bitter rival Muhammad Ali. Frazier purchased the gym in 1975 following his retirement and trained various fighters and local inner-city youth.
Offered are various boxing ring components from Frazier’s Philadelphia gym that includes ropes, matting/flooring and corner guards. These items represent an important piece of boxing history given hours spent by Frazier either training or working with the inner-city youth using this offered ring set from his historic venue. There are many photos and documentaries involving Frazier and his gym picturing the former champion at this facility using this very set. This offered ring is not assembled and not all of the hardware parts that are needed to assemble this set are included. Replacement parts can most likely be found and this presents a unique opportunity to own a piece of boxing history.
