Pete Maravich was one of the most singularly gifted offensive talents in basketball history, an effusive passer with a knack for scoring the basketball and an unparalleled creative streak. A star at every level of basketball, Maravich averaged an NCAA record 44.2 points per game during his collegiate career at Louisiana State University, starring for the Tigers under the tutelage of his father, head coach Press Maravich. He was selected third overall in the 1970 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, embarking on an NBA career that would span the next 10 seasons.
Although injuries robbed Maravich of a long career, he packed 15,948 points into his decade long career before retiring in 1980 at the age of only 32. Maravich was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 1987, less than a year before his tragic death at the age of 40. In 1996, Maravich was selected by the NBA as one of the 50 Greatest Players in the history of the Association.
This Wilson Official NBA basketball features the stamped signature of Lawrence T. O’Brien, the commissioner of the NBA from 1975 to 1984. Maravich has signed the basketball in bold black marker as “Pistol Pete”, adding his number “7” to his signature to complete this priceless collectible. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (Z05401).
