Atlanta Braves utility infielder Marty Martinez wore this jersey during the 1967 season, his first year back in the Big Leagues since playing 37 games for the Minnesota Twins in 1962. Martinez played 44 games with the Braves in 1967, hitting .288 with five RBI while playing primarily as defensive substitute. Martinez played seven total seasons in the Majors before retiring after a 26 game spell with the Texas Rangers in 1972.
This gray flannel, button down road jersey has “Braves” sewn across the chest in red and navy blue tackle twill. Martinez’s number “2” is sewn on the chest and back in red and navy blue tackle twill. A “Screaming Brave” logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Due to this jersey being recycled for use in the minor leagues, a MLB 100th Anniversary patch is sewn on the right sleeve. A MacGregor size “38” tag is sewn on the back inside collar of the jersey, while a semi-detached MacGregor “Set 1 1967” and a washing instructions tag are sewn on the front right inside tail of the jersey. Noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema notes that the “jersey had a number change, as Martinez wore #42 in spring training but wore #2 in the regular season”. This item, which shows moderate to heavy use, comes with a LOA from Dave Miedema.
