In 1976, New York Yankees star Chris Chambliss had an ALCS for the ages, hitting .521 and crushing a series-ending home run to clinch Game 5 for the Bronx Bombers. This home run triggered a massive celebration, with so many fans rushing the field that Chambliss was unable to make it to home plate, rushing straight from third base to the home dugout. This 16 x 20 inch photograph shows the field of Yankee Stadium covered in jubilant fans. Chambliss has heavily inscribed this photograph in silver marker, writing “I was the first hitter in the bottom of the ninth and had leaned, to that point, that thinking home run was not a good idea. I did not have good swings when I tried to hit home runs, so I tried to put a good swing on the ball and it happened to be in the right place. It was up a little bit, and I was able to hit it high in the air to right field and it went over the fence. The cheers started right away. I made it around 1st base and when I got to 2nd base there were already fans all over the field. I remember tripping,   I went down to one knee. Somebody tried to steal my helmet from behind. From then on it was like how do I get myself to the dugout? I went into the clubhouse and everybody asked me ‘Did you touch home plate?’ I took two security cops and the three of us made out way back onto the field. Home plate was already stolen, so it was bare ground there but I put my foot on it and we went back. That was good enough for the cops and umpires so we were on to the World Series…a place I’d since then, become very familiar with.” Chambliss has signed this photograph as well. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports and a Fanatics Authenticated hologram (0542725).
