Presented here is a signed and heavily inscribed photograph of New York Yankees third baseman Charlie Hayes taken moments after his catch in foul territory handed the New York Yankees the 1996 World Series title, their first since 1978. Hayes wrote, “People ask me about this catch every single day. If this would of happened when I played for any other team, it wouldn’t be the same. Growing up as a kid I couldn’t have dreamed about being a Yankee. Being in this World Series was an unbelievable experience. What makes it so surreal was wearing a Yankee uniform. In this particular moment I was worried about throwing a ground ball away. In the foul ball hit before this one I broke my finger. Moments later another foul ball was hit and I caught it for the last out. The celebration begun!” Hayes signed his name beneath this inscription, adding the additional caption “Last out / 96 World Series Champs”. The signature and inscriptions have been written in silver marker. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports and a Fanatics Authenticated hologram (0542764).
