Presented here is a signed and heavily inscribed 16 x 20 inch photograph of New York Yankees relief pitcher Goose Gossage. The hurler is pictured in his home whites, rearing back to rifle a pitch across the plate. Gossage inscribed “I was the type of relief pitcher that became extinct. I was the long man, the short man, and the set up man. It was grueling the way we were abused. Nobody worried about our arms falling off, I certainly didn’t. Todays pitchers are babied. I don’t need a pitch count to tell me a guys tired. They don’t build up any endurance. Now it takes three guys to do what we did. The one-inning closer wasn’t even a coined phrase at that time. We were relief pitchers. I loved being in a game when it was on the line. Intimidation was a part of m game. Heck, if I was a batter, I wouldn’t hit against myself. I pitched with a task and I was going to accomplish it.” Gossage signed and inscribed this photograph in silver marker, writing “HOF 2008” beneath his signature. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports and a Fanatics Authenticated hologram (0542688).
