Presented here is a 16 x 20 photograph of Los Angeles Dodgers hobbled slugger Kirk Gibson after crushing a walk off home run against the Oakland A’s in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. Gibson wrote “I was fortunate to be part of some very clutch moments in my career. In 88 we beat the Mets in 7 games but I hurt both legs. I didn’t even line up for the anthem in pregame of the World Series… It hurt to even walk. I told my wife to go home in the bottom of the 3rd inning because I didn’t think there was any way I could play. But in the top of the ninth trailing 4-3 to the A’s, I told our bat boy to go tell Tommy I could hit in the bottom of the 9th off Eck. I was down in the count 0-2 but battled back to make it 3-2. Then I hit a backdoor slider over the wall to walk off the A’s. I was pumping my arm hobbling around 2b I was so happy!! Never thinking it would be one of the greatest moments in WS history… 88 World Series”. Gibson signed and inscribed this photograph in silver marker.
