Presented here are two 2006 World Baseball Classic Team South Africa coaches jerseys worn by former All-Star closer Lee Smith. The former all-time leader in saves, Smith enjoyed a tremendously successful 18-year MLB career before transitioning to his coaching career. Smith was the pitching coach for South Africa during the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic Tournaments, and currently serves as a roving instructor for the San Francisco Giants. These pullover jerseys are green, with white and yellow mesh sides. “SOUTH AFRICA” is sewn across the chest in white and yellow tackle twill. A South African flag patch is sewn on the right sleeve, and a 2006 World Baseball Classic patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Smith’s number “46” is sewn on the back in white and yellow tackle twill beneath a WBC logo patch on the back outside collar. A Majestic tag is sewn on the front left tail of each jersey. One jersey has an attached size “44” flag and the other a size “56” flag. Smith has signed the “4” digit on each jersey in black marker, adding the inscription “WBC” to each signature. These near-identical jerseys come with a LOA from Lee Smith who in his LOA states that these jerseys have been in his private collection.
