Even with a roster with Gary Carter, Daryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden, the best player on the 1986 World Champion New York Mets that season was Keith Hernandez. The first piece of the Mets rebuild started with the acquisition of Hernandez back in 1983 and the veteran first baseman was instrumental in the Mets team that led wire-to-wire in 1986 and staged one of the greatest comebacks in World Series history.
Hernandez wore this size 42 N.A. Goodman & Sons New York Mets road jersey during the 1986 season and including the NLCS and World Series. This pullover gray jersey features “Mets” sewn on across the chest in blue and orange tackle twill. Hernandez’s number “17” is sewn on the center left chest in blue and orange tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “HERNANDEZ” sewn on in blue and orange tackle twill on a matching gray name plate above his number “17” that is sewn on in blue and orange tackle twill. The sleeves and sides of the jersey are lined in an orange/blue/orange ribbed material stripe with the left sleeve having a “Mets 25th Anniversary 1962-1986” patch. The bottom front left tail has a gray patch that reads “SET P ‘86” and the “NA Goodman & Sons 42” manufacturer’s tag. The jersey shows light to moderate game use and Hernandez has signed his name below his number on the back of the jersey in blue marker. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use and a LOA from JSA (Z64061) for his signature.
