Presented here is a MacGregor KBM first baseman’s glove manufactured for Willie Mays in 1967. Mays, one of the greatest fielders of any era, did not play first base in 1967, however he used this glove in his sporadic appearances at first base in the twilight of his career. Mays, at the age of 36, was still performing at a high level in 1967, hitting 22 home runs and driving in 70 runs. He was named to one of his incredible 24 All-Star teams in 1967 as the Giants finished with a 91-71 record, good for second place in the Senior Circuit. Mays played until 1973, with his final game taking place in the 1973 Fall Classic against the Oakland Athletics. He finished his career with 660 home runs, 3,283 hits, and a lifetime .302 batting average.

This MacGregor KBM first baseman’s glove is made of tanned kangaroo hide, and is bound with rawhide laces. The web is a dual post H-web, and the thumb and finger tips have been reinforced. A black silk crown-style MacGregor wrist label is present on this glove. Please note that the laces securing the bottom of the dual posts in the web are missing. Mays has signed the back of the glove in silver marker. This glove, which shows evidence of heavy use, comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00420), who state that the “condition of this glove today indicates it has seen additional use since being used by Mays”. There is also a LOA from JSA (Z76389) for Mays' signature.
