This lot is part of the Jackie Robinson 71st Anniversary Auction to benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation

Mel Ott was the third member of the 500 Home Run Club, and the first to reach that mark playing in the National League. A lifelong New York Giant, Ott made his debut at the age of 17 in 1926, going on to hit 511 home runs over the next 22 seasons. Ott, the pride of Gretna, Louisiana, led the Giants to the 1933 World Series title and spent the final seven years of his career as either the player-manager or manager of the National League team. A 12-time All-Star, Ott was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951, alongside Jimmie Foxx, the second member of the 500 Home Run Club.

Ott has signed this Official National League Ford C. Frick baseball in black steel-tip fountain pen. He placed his signature on the panel to the south of the sweet spot. Authentication service JSA has stated that Ott’s signature “has been enhanced in an unknown hand” and that “there are two signature removals on the baseball. One is on the sweet spot, the other is on the north panel. This ball exhibits minor toning and light wear. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z78154). Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium. Goldin Auctions will be donating 10% of the winning bid price to The Jackie Robinson Foundation.
