The Great One’s arrival in California in 1988 heralded an unprecedented interest in hockey. Not only did kids of all ages begin take up the sport, but Wayne Gretzky’s presence paved the way for the Mighty Ducks and San Jose Sharks to make California their home. This Los Angeles Kings’ home jersey dates to the 1990-1991 season in which Gretzky led the NHL in both points and assists, finishing the season by taking home the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy and his 9th Art Ross Trophy.

This white home jersey has the silver, white and black LA Kings logo patch on the chest with Gretzky’s captain’s “C” in black and silver tackle twill. The Great One has signed the right chest area in black marker, adding his number “99.” A Maska label is sewn inside the collar and each sleeve carries Gretzky’s number “99” in white and silver tackle twill. The back has a white name plate with “GRETZKY” in Black and silver tackle twill above his number “99” in the same colors and material. The bottom tail has two CCM and NHL shield logo patches and Gretzky’s number “99” in black on a white strip tag is sewn inside the hem. Velcro is sewn inside the hem and a fight strap has been removed from the jersey. The jersey shows good use with the sleeves displaying some board burn along with blue and red paint transfers. The front has some pinching to the fabric and light puckering to the graphics with a scrape visible on the Kings crest. A real “been-there” Gretzky gamer from one of the best seasons of the California period of his Hall of Fame career. This jersey comes with an LOA from MeiGray (153060) for the game use. The jersey also comes with separate signed 1991-dated letters of provenance from Wayne Gretzky, James Fox and Peter Demers of the Los Angeles Kings, authenticating both the game use and Gretzky’s signature.
