Johnny Sain was one-half of the pitching duo with Hall of Famer Warren Spahn that evoked the memorable phrase “Spahn and Sain; then pray for rain”. When Sain’s playing career was over, the righty began coaching in 1959 with the Kansas City Athletics and spent future coaching stints with the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves. Sain’s last stint as a coach came with the Braves’ organization in 1977 and again in 1985 and 1986.

Sain began as pitching coach with the Atlanta Braves in 1987 during spring training, but was replaced towards the end of March by Bruce Del Canton. This offered Atlanta Braves size 46 Wilson button-down home white jersey was most likely worn by Sain during spring training in 1987. The Braves went back to their classic red and navy blue style to start the 1987 season. “Braves” above a tomahawk are sewn across the chest in red and navy blue tackle twill with some gold stitching on the tomahawk. Navy blue and red piping run around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and on the sleeve ends. A Wilson tag is sewn on the bottom left front tail with an “87” patch and “46” flag. The back of the jersey has “33” sewn on in red and navy blue tackle twill with “SAIN” sewn on in navy blue tackle twill on a matching white name plate above the number. The jersey has an off-white inner lining around the collar and down both sides of the buttons. This jersey displays toning, giving it an off-white color and shows light wear with some light staining. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
