Offered is a rare 1980 Texas Rangers road jersey worn by former American League Cy Young Award winner Sparky Lyle. Lyle began his second season with the Rangers in 1980 before being traded to the eventual World Champion Philadelphia Phillies in September, making him ineligible for the post season. This Rawlings size 44 powder blue pullover jersey with two buttons was worn by Lyle during the 1980 season and features “Texas” across the chest in red and white tackle twill. A matching blue swatch with “28 80 1” sewn on the bottom front right tail and the Rawlings tag with a “SET 1 1980” flag is sewn on the inside front right tail. The back of the jersey has Lyle’s number “28” sewn on in red, white and royal blue tackle twill. The collar and sleeves have royal blue, white and red stripes. The right sleeve has the Rangers logo patch. The jersey was eventually issued to Dennis Lewallyn following Lyle’s trade. This jersey displays moderate use and comes with a LOA from Mears, who have graded this jersey a perfect A10.
