Powered by the bat of Reggie Jackson and the one-for-the-ages season of starting pitcher Ron Guidry, the 1978 New York Yankees defended their World Series title, repeating as Major League Baseball’s champions. A six-game defeat of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic gave the Yankees their 22nd title in franchise history. Jackson slugged 27 home runs during the regular season, then batted .391 with two homers and eight RBIs vs. the Dodgers while the hot bat of Bucky Dent won him the World Series Most Valuable Player. Guidry finished the season with an unthinkable 25-3 record to go with a dominating 1.74 ERA.

Presented here is a 14K gold 1978 New York Yankees World Series championship player’s ring that was presented to Cliff Johnson. The face of the ring features a beautiful round diamond set on a larger blue stone. Appearing around the stone’s bezel setting are 21 smaller diamonds, with the larger diamond signifying the team’s 22nd World Series championship. Around the outer perimeter reads “WORLD CHAMPIONS” in relief work, with the words separated by stars. The right shank features the name “JOHNSON” above the team’s “NY” logo and the year 1978. “PRIDE” and “TRADITION” appear in banners at the bottom, along with Johnson’s # 41 inside the image of home plate. A Yankees emblem centers the opposite shank, over an image of the Commissioner’s Trophy that reads “NEW YORK YANKEES 1978 WORLD CHAMPIONS”. Yankee Stadium’s façade is shown across the top. This Balfour manufactured ring – which shows wear around the band – weighs approximately 30.0 grams with the size an approximate 13. This ring comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AF01171).
