As one of the premier players in the game, Ty Cobb was among the very first players to get their own professional model Louisville Slugger. Cobb signed his first contract with the Kentucky bat company in 1908, and this professional model decal bat can be dated to the 1911-1916 period by the center brand style. During those six seasons, Cobb won five batting crowns, hit over .400 twice, led the league in hits three times and won an MVP Award. To say this was Cobb’s prime would be an understatement.

This bat is Cobb’s C28 model and measures 34 ½ inches and weighs 38 ounces, both specifications falling within the range of length/weight of bats ordered by Cobb during this period and found in the factory’s archives. As would be expected from a Ty Cobb gamer, this bat shows heavy game use throughout. The decal is worn away with just enough visible to identify it as a Cobb model. A 14-inch crack runs through its handle and extends through the center brand. Five vintage screws secure the front of the bat and a large 2-inch gouge touches the end of the decal. Ball marks and abrasions abound along with cleat imprints. A 7-inch piece of adhesive tape is still wound around the handle of the bat. An exquisite Ty Cobb gamer dating from the heart of his Hall of Fame career. The bat comes with a LOA from MEARS (314701) for the game use and has been graded an A7.
