Offered here is a letter from Rogers Hornsby to Daniel Topping, the New York Yankees part owner and team president, that has been signed by the Hall of Fame second baseman. Hornsby, a career .358 hitter, was invited by Topping to an unspecified event, likely at Yankee Stadium. This typed letter reads “Dear Mr. Topping: I received your letter and wish to say again ‘thanks’ for the invitation. I will definitely be there unless either unforeseen circumstances detain me. At present, I have no further questions about the day but I will certainly feel free to approach you about any that may arise”. Hornsby closed the letter with the sign off “Kindest Personal Regards”. The class of 1942 Hall of Famer has signed this letter, typed on Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago stationary, in black pen. The letter is dated to July 5th, 1954.
