Offered here is “Consent and Release Agreement” signed by one arguably the greatest all-around player of all-time – Willie Mays. This offered agreement, signed on “Sept. 22, 1951”, was between Mays and American Home Foods, Inc. of New Jersey. The contract, in part, reads “herby acknowledged, do hereby give said American Home Foods, Inc. the exclusive and absolute right and permission to copyright and/or use and/or publish photographic portraits or pictures of me, or any simulation thereof, in conjunction with my name and to copyright and/or use and/or publish a brief outline of my baseball career and my physical and playing characteristics, for distribution as a Picture premium with “Duff’s Baking Mixes” and “Burnett’s Puddings” for a term beginning with the completion o the final game of the 1951 World Series and ending with the completion of the final game of the 1952 World Series.” Mays signed his name at the bottom of the page in royal blue pen on the “(Seal)” line, with the date “Sept. 22, 1951” and the witness “Joan Crosby” in green pen. The contract has two pre-punched holes at the top and displays minor toning due to age and minimal age wear.
