This hardcover copy of David Halberstam’s book The Amateurs: The Story of Four Young Men and Their Quest for an Olympic Gold Medal has been signed by the author and inscribed with a message to Hall of Fame centerfielder Joe DiMaggio. Halberstam, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, wrote numerous seminal books about the Yankees, including Summer of ’49 and October 1964. Halberstam has signed this book in black fine-tip marker, writing “To Joe DiMaggio / with gratitude for the pleasure of watching him play / David Halberstam / Oct 1987”.
