Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this United Press International NCAA Player of the Year certificate for his outstanding performance on the UCLA Bruins basketball team during the 1966-67 season. Abdul-Jabbar played his first varsity college season in 1966-67 after spending the previous year with the freshman team due to NCAA regulations barring freshman from playing on the varsity team. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, averaged 29 points and 15.5 rebounds in a season that ended with the first of three straight NCAA titles. This certificate is housed in a UPI-branded folding display. The certificate has been signed by the Sports Editor of the United Press International. The certificate is in overall good condition. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
