Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar introduced himself to the NBA with a dominant rookie season in 1969-70. The Milwaukee Bucks center, then known as “Lew Alcindor”, averaged 28.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game as the Bucks went from a record of 27-55 in their inaugural year to 56-26 in their first year with the former UCLA center. The presence of Kareem invigorated the Bucks, and in their third season as a franchise the Wisconsinites won the NBA title in a four-game sweep over the Washington Bullets.

Offered here is Abdul-Jabbar’s full uniform (jersey and shorts) from the 1970 NBA All-Star Game at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Abdul-Jabbar came off the bench to play 18 minutes in this exhibition contest, contributing a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, with an additional four assists for the Eastern Conference squad. This white jersey has “EAST” and Abdul-Jabbar’s number “33” sewn on the chest in red and navy tackle twill. Four navy tackle twill stars are sewn on the chest as well. “ALCINDOR” and four additional stars are sewn on the back of the jersey in navy tackle twill. This is likely one of only a couple of Abdul-Jabbar game used jerseys with “Alcindor” on the back, as the Bucks did not switch to having names on their jerseys until Abdul-Jabbar’s name change in 1973 and UCLA went with only a number on the back of their jerseys. A second “33” is sewn on the back of the jersey in red and navy tackle twill. A Wilson size “46” tag is sewn on the front left tail.

Also included in this lot are Abdul-Jabbar’s white satin shorts from the 1970 All-Star Game. The shorts have a red waistband, with navy and red stripes on the side and opening of each leg. Three navy tackle twill stars are sewn on each leg. A Wilson size “36” tag is sewn on the back inside waistband. “1st All Star Game” is written on the inside of these shorts in black marker. This uniform derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this uniform. The jersey and shorts may be shipped in its current frame or without the frame per customer request.
