Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won his fourth NBA Finals, and third with the Los Angeles Lakers, at the end of the 1984-85 season. Abdul-Jabbar torched the Boston Celtics in a six-game Finals, scoring 25.7 points with 9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, as he earned his second career Finals MVP award. Offered here are two issues of Sports Illustrated magazine from 1985 featuring Abdul-Jabbar as the cover star.
The first SI is from the June 17th issue titled “King of the Court: Kareem Leads Los Angeles to the NBA Championship”. The second is when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was named Sports Illustrated’s 1985 Sportsman of the Year from the week of December 23rd-30th, 1985 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the cover. Both of these magazines have been framed for display and the Sportsman of the Year issue has a plate that has been added that reads “To Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1985 Sportsman of the Year From Your Friends at Sports Illustrated” These items come directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with a LOA signed by Kareem.
