Best known for his “Phinally!” lithograph of the Phillies’ 2008 championship, Mike Kuyper specializes in sweeping stadium scenes. He takes great pride in meticulously depicting every minute detail of architecture, signage, cityscapes and game action. Kuyper received his formal training in Fine Art and Illustration from Philadelphia’s Hussian School of Art. In this tremendous painting of Willie Mays, Kuyper hones in on his scale, capturing a portrait of “The Say Hey Kid” down to the finest detail. Below Mays’ portrait is an image of Mays making “The Catch”, his famous over-the-shoulder basket catch from the 1954 World Series. This stunning oil on canvas painting is a modern treasure, and it has been signed on the reverse by Kuyper in black marker and on the front of the painting in white paint. Additionally, “Willie Mays The Catch” and “2018” are written on the back of this 12 x 24 inch painting in black marker. This tremendous painting would instantly become the centerpiece of any baseball art collection!
