Presented is a 25-card complete set of N129b "Stars of the Stage - First Series" non-sports cards issued by Gail & Ax in 1890. This set is of one of the most attractive 19th Century tobacco insert card editions ever produced. The 25 subjects can be found with one of three different advertising brand backs and although this offering consists of first series portraits, this particular brand back is the more ornate design that does not state "First Series" on the reverse. Every card in this issue showcases a beautifully illustrated, but unnamed actress within a organic shaped frame and outer white border. Mostly VG to VG/EX (some lesser).
