1988 was a career-season for Kirk Gibson. On top of winning the National League MVP with 25 home runs and 76 RBI, Gibson led the Los Angeles Dodgers to the NL West title, an upset victory over the New York Mets in the NLCS and hit one of the most dramatic home runs in World Series history, his ninth-inning walk-off home run against Oakland A’s Hall of Fame closer Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.
Gibson wore this Rawlings size 46 button-down Dodgers road jersey during the 1988 season. This jersey features “Dodgers” and a paraph, sewn on blue and white tackle twill, across the chest. Gibson’s number “23” is sewn on in red tackle twill on the left center chest. The Rawlings tag and the “SET 1 1988” flag are sewn on the inside back collar. The sleeves are capped with blue band that is outlined in white. The Rawlings logo is embroidered in white on the blue band on the right sleeve. The back of the jersey has “GIBSON” and “23” sewn on in blue and white tackle twill. The jersey displays moderate wear with some old pine tar marks on the right shoulder. The Dodgers wore sleeve patches in both pre-season and post-season and with the absence of any patches, this jersey has been deemed to have been used in the regular season. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
