If Jackie Robinson did nothing else but break baseball’s color barrier, his place in baseball history would be secure. However, Jackie didn’t just break the color barrier – he shattered it – winning the first Rookie of the Year Award ever given in 1947 and leading the Brooklyn Dodgers to their first pennant in six years. Jackie followed that up with his 1949 MVP season and another pennant, all the while enduring vile racial indignities that would have broken lesser men. Millions of people around the world looked to Jackie Robinson for inspiration, and one of them was fortunate enough to have received this personalized signed ball from the Dodgers legend. This Spalding Home Run League ball has been signed on a side panel “To Alan with Best Wishes Jackie Robinson” in blue ballpoint pen. The ball shows only light toning from age with some slight scuffing. Jackie’s signature remains very legible on the creamy white leather of the ball. The ball comes with a LOA from JSA (Z86343) for the signature.
