Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded with this Catholic News C.Y.O. All Stars Metropolitan Basketball Festival trophy in 1961. Already a burgeoning legend in the fiery New York City high school basketball scene, the player then known as Lew Alcindor dominated his competition for Power Memorial Academy. Abdul-Jabbar led Power on a 71-game winning streak while winning Mr. Basketball USA honors in both 1964 and 1965. The offered trophy measures approximately 11.5 inches tall. It is constructed of a 4-inch tall wooden pedestal and a 7.5-inch statuette of a basketball player. A detachable plaque on the trophy reads “The Catholic News’ C.Y.O. All Stars Met. Basketball Festival ‘61”. This trophy is in good condition. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
