In 2001, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with “Mickey Mantle’s Community Service Award” by the Brooklyn Sports Foundation. Abdul-Jabbar, a Hall of Fame center for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, is a New York native and one of the basketball-crazy city’s favorite sons. This award takes the shape of a silver bowl atop a 5.5 x 5.5-inch brown pedestal. The bowl has a diameter of 8.25 inches. A plaque affixed to the pedestal reads “Mickey Mantle’s Community Service Award / Presented to Kareem Abdul Jabbar / Brooklyn Sports Foundation 14th Annual Sports & Entertainment Fantasy Auction / November 30, 2001”. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
