The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Gold Special Jury Award at the 1989 Houston International Film Festival for his appearance in the L.A. Gear “Ballboy” commercial. Abdul-Jabbar is a noted actor, famously portraying the pilot Roger Murdoch in the 1980 comedy Airplane and taking on a starring role in the Bruce Lee martial arts classic Game of Death. This award shows a gold man holding a gold star, perched atop a black base. The award measures 12.5 inches tall, and the base has a diameter of 7 inches. A gold placard is affixed to the base. It reads “Gold Special Jury Award for ‘Ballboy’ T.V. Commercials – Apparel L.A. Gear / Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1989”. This award comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
