Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this Helms Athletic Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year trophy in 1967. Abdul-Jabbar, known in college as Lew Alcindor, starred for the UCLA Bruins for three seasons, leading them to three NCAA titles in 1967, 1968, and 1969. The Helms Athletic Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year award was one of the most prestigious awards in college basketball, being awarded to the star player in college basketball until 1979. This hallowed trophy stands on a six-inch diameter pedestal, and is constructed of a bronze-colored fluted trophy cup with a diameter of 5.25 inches at its widest point. The trophy measures 10.5 inches tall. It is engraved with “Lew Alcindor / U.C.L.A. / College Basketball / Player of Year / 1967”. A Helms Athletic Foundation logo is etched in high-relief on this trophy. The trophy displays some weathering but is otherwise in fine condition. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
