In the fall of 1984, the Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar extended his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers for an additional two seasons. Then in his late 30’s, Abdul-Jabbar maintained an impressive output for the Lakers, starting 79 games in both the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. Across the two campaigns, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 22.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for the “Showtime” Lakers. The Lakers would finish with a sterling 62-20 record in both seasons, with their long-serving team leader bringing yet another championship to LA in 1985 with a six-game trouncing of the hated Boston Celtics. Abdul-Jabbar was named the Finals MVP for the second time in his career, averaging 25.7 points, 9 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in the season finale showcase.

Offered here is Abdul-Jabbar’s personally signed and owned contract for the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. For his first year under these new terms, Abdul-Jabbar received $1.5 million in compensation, with that number jumping to an even $2 million for his second season. Abdul-Jabbar has signed this contract three times, using a rare and desirable full-name signature in place of his usual signature of “Abdul-Jabbar”. His signatures appear on the 11th, 15th, and 24th pages of this contract in black pen. Abdul-Jabbar has also initialed the first page. Lakers owner Jerry Buss has signed pages 11 and 24 in blue pen, as well as initialing the first page. This contract comes with a LOA from JSA (Z87949) and a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
