Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this State of Wisconsin “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Day” proclamation in 1988. Abdul-Jabbar was drafted first overall in the 1969 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, and the former UCLA star immediately brought the year-old franchise into NBA relevance. In Abdul-Jabbar’s first season, the Bucks improved from 27-55 to 56-26 before winning 66 games and the NBA title in Abdul-Jabbar’s sophomore campaign.
This award was presented to Abdul-Jabbar on December 11th, 1988, the night of a Lakers and Bucks game at the historic Bradley Center. This plaque has been signed by the Governor of Wisconsin, Tommy Thompson, and Doug La Follette, the Wisconsin Secretary of State. This plaque measures 10.5 x 16 inches and comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
