This bat is a stunning visual tribute to Pete Rose’s lifetime of determination to become MLB’s Hit King. Pete used this Mizuno during the 1985 season in which he broke Ty Cobb’s long held record for career hits. What’s important to note about this bat is the significant checking found on the barrel. This grain swelling is caused by repeated ball contact, which in this case indicates that Rose most likely used this bat for batting practice – honing his swing as he closed in on the coveted record. However, it’s possible Rose “retired” this bat after game use for use in BP.

On September 11, 1985 he finally hit number 4,192, and every hit he recorded afterwards was the new MLB record. The Mizuno 4192 model bat shows tremendous game use and the barrel is riddled with ball marks and scuffs in addition to the aforementioned checking. The upper handle has a spiral of adhesive tape as well as a coat of pine tar. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13735) for the game use and a LOA from PSA/DNA for the signature.
