Beginning in 1962, Willie Stargell became an indispensible part of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He anchored the 1971 and 1979 World Series Champion teams and along the way led the NL in home runs twice (’71 and ’73), earned the NL MVP in 1979, and played on seven All-Star teams. Pop’s was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988, and passed away in 2001.
