Chicago Bears Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton wore this navy Bears home jersey circa 1984-87. Payton, who played in the NFL from 1975 to 1987, was the NFL’s all-time leading rusher at the time of his retirement, with 16,726 rushing yards, and is universally regarded as one of the greatest players in NFL history. From 1984 until the end of his career, Payton rushed for over 5,000 yards, with a high of 1,684 rushing yards coming in 1984.

In 1985, Payton rushed for 1,551 yards in the regular season, as his Bears compiled a stunning 15-1 record behind a ferocious defense and Payton’s ethereal running. Payton, the 1977 NFL MVP, won the only Super Bowl of his career in 1985, rushing for 61 yards in the Bears 46-10 victory over the New England Patriots. In 1986, Payton continued to churn out yardage, rushing for 1,331 yards and eight scores. Payton, after whom the NFL named their “Man of the Year Award”, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame 1993 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.

This navy home jersey shows exemplary wear, including more than a dozen team repairs to the sleeves, shoulders, and chest of this well-worn jersey. Payton’s number “34”, since retired by the Bears, is screen-printed on the chest, back, and shoulders in white and orange digits. “PAYTON” is screen-printed across the back shoulders in white and orange letters over a matching navy nameplate.
