This Red Cross blood donor card has been signed by none other than the Hall of Fame second baseman Jackie Robinson. The first African-American player in Major League baseball since 1884, Robinson was a superb hitter and the 1949 National League MVP. Robinson played 10 seasons in the Major Leagues, making six All-Star teams and winning the 1949 Rookie of the Year Award. Robinson was a member of Brooklyn’s only World Series winning team in 1955, and in 1962 Robinson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This blood donor card is from “My Fair Lady’s Day” on March 8th, 1958 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The card was originally presented to a “Mrs. Arline Steeves”. Robinson has signed the front of the card in green pen. Writing in an unknown hand is present on the front of the card as well. This item has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83357374).
