Baseball’s original iron man, Lou Gehrig, has signed this 8 x 10 inch photograph. The New York Yankees first baseman was one of the greatest players in baseball history, hitting 493 home runs and driving in 1,995 runs during his 17 season career. Gehrig led the Yankees to six World Series titles and was instrumental in helping the team transition from the “Murderer’s Row” era to the Joe DiMaggio Yankees of the late 1930’s. Tragically, Gehrig’s career was ended by a fatal diagnosis of ALS, leading to Gehrig’s extraordinary induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939.
This photograph shows Gehrig on the top step of the Yankee Stadium dugout clutching a pair of bats. Gehrig is wearing his full Yankee home whites and a navy Yankee cap on his head. Due to the presence of the interlocking “NY” logo on Gehrig’s uniform, this photograph was taken during or after the 1936 MLB season. Gehrig has signed this photograph in black pen, inscribing “To George Lohr / With Kind Regards” above his signature. This photograph is accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA.
