On his way to a career-high 20 goals for the 1973-74 season, former enforcer Dave “The Hammer” Schultz recorded his first career hat trick against the New York Rangers on January 3, 1974. Schultz’ hat trick helped lead the Flyers to the 4-2 victory over the Rangers as he scored a goal in each period. A few short months later, Schultz and the Flyers became the first expansion team to defeat an “Original Six” team in a playoff series when they bested the same Rangers 4-3 in the semi-finals and rode that to the franchise’s first of two consecutive Stanley Cup championships.
Offered is this wood plaque display that was presented to Dave Schultz and honors his first career hat trick. This 12 x 12 inch display features a sepia-toned picture of Schultz in his Flyers uniform holding his stick a ready position. A 4 ¼ x 5 inch gold plate is mounted to right of the picture and reads “DAVE SHULTZ FIRST N.H.L. HAT TRICK 1 GOAL EACH PERIOD FLYERS 4 N.Y. RANGERS 2 AT THE SPECTRUM JAN. 3, 1974”. Beneath the plate is a hockey puck with the Flyers logo which has two gold plated hockey sticks on each side. The picture, plate and puck are mounted on a 9 x 9 inch orange backdrop that is mounted to the wood plaque. The wood plaque is slightly rounded at the top, bottom and sides, with each corner rounded inward. This item comes with a full LOA from Dave Schultz.
