Offered here is a purse signed by Muhammad Ali and Wayne Cochrane. Ali, one of the most influential athletes of the 20th century, compiled a career boxing record of 55-6 while winning multiple title belts. A noted activist as well as a star athlete, Ali was instrumental in changing how the American public viewed athletes in society. A second signature on this purse belongs to Wayne Cochran, an eccentric soul singer notable for his white pompadour hairdo and iconoclastic wardrobe. The final signature on this purse belongs to one of Cochran’s bandmembers.
Ali has inscribed “To Mickey” and “7-10-76” in addition to his signature, dating his signature to just after his defeat of Ken Norton at Yankee Stadium on September 28th, 1976. Cochran inscribed “Praise the Lord!” in addition to his signature, while the bandmember added “To Mickey” above their signature. The signatures and inscriptions have been written in blue pen.
