Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson threw for 3,754 yards and 29 touchdowns in 1981, posting a league-high (and career-best) 98.4 QB rating. He was recognized for his fantastic season by being named NFL Most Valuable Player. What made Anderson’s MVP season even more remarkable was the fact that he was also named NFL Comeback Player of the Year, as he was coming off a 1980 season in which he recorded a career-low 66.9 QB rating. What a difference a year would make. The 1981 campaign began a rebirth for Anderson, as he would again be the league’s highest rated QB in 1982 and led the NFL in completion percentage in both 1982 and 1983.
Offered here is 1981 Seattle Times NFL Player of the Year Gold Helmet Award presented to Ken Anderson, featuring a floating, gold-colored helmet in a heavy acrylic case. An engraved plate on the wooden base reads “GOLD HELMET AWARD KEN ANDERSON 1981 NFL PLAYER OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY THE SEATTLE TIMES THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ATHLETIC DEPT”. This award measures 8 x 6 ½ inches and 11 inches tall. It has been signed by Anderson in black on the bottom of the base. Includes Anderson LOA.
