The 1914 World Series saw the powerful Philadelphia Athletics, the winner of three of the past four World Series, take on the upstart Boston Braves in the Fall Classic. With the first two games at Philadelphia’s Shibe Park, pundits and fans alike expected Connie Mack’s men to cruise to yet another title, but a shocking 7-1 victory by Boston in Game 1 turned the entire series on its head. The Braves wrapped up three straight wins, including a classic 4-3 victory in 12 innings at Fenway Park in Game 3, to win the first World Series title in franchise history.
Offered here is a Shibe Park press pin from the 1914 Fall Classic. This gorgeous pin is bronze in color, with a blue border featuring the text “World’s Series Shibe Park Philadelphia” and “1914”. Etched in high relief on the center of this pendant is the Baseball Writers Association of America logo layered atop a glove. The pendant measures approximately 1.25 x 1.5 inches. Etched on the reverse side of this press pin is “J.E. Caldwell & Co. Phila.” This press pin is in good condition and is a tremendous memento from one of the earliest World Series.
