Before professional baseball became concentrated in the United States of America, booming professional leagues thrived all across the North American continent. The baseball scene was especially vibrant north of the border, including in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Offered here is the 1886 Manitoba League batting trophy, won by JH Barnfeather of the CPR Club. CPR Club was one of three teams active in the 1886 Manitoba League alongside the Metropolitans and Hotelkeepers. This gorgeous and unique trophy measures approximately 10 inches tall, with a removable lid. “Batting Championship / J.H. Barnfeather / Manitoba League 1886” is etched on the body of the trophy, while “Presented By D. SMITH - President of the METROPOLITAN BASE BALL CLUB” is etched on the 3.25 inch diameter base. This trophy is in fine condition, with some minor age-related weathering the only blemish. This trophy is a fantastic relic from a bygone era of baseball.
