Bobby Layne's 80-yard scoring drive in the last four minutes of play gave the Detroit Lions a 17-16 NFL Championship Game victory over the Cleveland Browns at Briggs Stadium in Detroit. It was the Lions second consecutive title as the game was highlighted by the Lions dominating backfield that limited Hall of Famer Otto Graham to two completions for four yards on 15 attempts. This great Lions team also featured seven future Hall of Famers that included Jack Christiansen, Lou Creekmur, Yale Lary, Joe Schmidt, Bobby Layne, Dick Stanfel and Doak Walker.

While a handful of 1953 Lions rings have reached the auction block over the past 15 years, we are only aware of two other 1953 rings. One displayed heavy wear and sold back in 2002 and the other sold in 2016. This particular example offered here is a replacement ring made exactly as the original 1953 ring for Roy Macklen that was produced at a later date. boasts NM condition. The Josten 14K-gold, approximate size 11 ¼ ring features a 10-point diamond crowning the "WORLD CHAMPIONS 1953" football (which has a special "frosted" preparation process), flanked by intricate roaring-lion shank designs with "DETROIT LIONS" and "NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE." The ring weighs approximately 27.8 grams and is handsomely engraved inside the band is the name, "Roy Macklen." This ring is also accompanied by a Jostens ring box.
