By 1969, Ernie Banks was wrapping up his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Cubs, the only team he ever played for. Swinging this Hillerich & Bradsby S2 and others like it, Banks hit a combined 38 home runs in 1969, 1970 and 1971, which put him into the exclusive 500 Career Home Run Club. These were Banks’ last years as a full-time player, and Cubs skipper Leo Durocher tapped him to be a part-time coach, letting the future Hall of Famer inspire a new generation of ballplayers.
This offered Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat was used by Mr. Cub during his last three seasons in the Major League. This bat displays outstanding use and has a crack on the handle. There are numerous ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat imprints and green bat rack streaks. The knob has the model number “S2” stamped. A terrific late-career gamer from one of the most beloved players of all-time. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14720) and has been graded a GU 7.5.
