Although he was called “Dr. Strangelove” for his rather awkward work while wearing a glove, no pitcher in the NL wanted to see Dick Stuart with a bat in his hand standing at home plate. The Pirates first baseman hit a Ruthian 66 home runs in the minor leagues, and continued mauling opposing pitchers when he reached the majors in 1958. This bat dates to 1959, Stuart’s first full season in the big leagues during which he hit 27 homers and batted a nice .297. The Hillerich & Bradsby U1 model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. There are many ball marks and abrasions found on the barrel along with scuffs from contact with ground and bat rack paint streaks. Stuart’s number “7” is hand written on the knob in orange marker along with the weight “34” written in pencil. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B16102) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.
