Although Kansas City fans knew their third baseman was the best the game has seen in many generations, it was during the summer of 1980 in which George Brett became a national superstar. Shattering the record for the single season batting average by a third baseman with an astonishing .390, Brett's star-status was validated by being selected as the American League's 1980 MVP as well as winning the coveted Silver Slugger Award. Brett capped off this prodigious season by leading the Royals to their first World Series appearance. The bat awarded to Brett is an exact replica of one of his Louisville Slugger game bats, custom engraved with “BATTING CHAMPION 1980 AMERICAN LEAGUE B.A. - .390.” The silver surface shows tarnishing from age and some abrasion scuffs and dings from display and/or storage. A unique award that visually sums up Brett’s awe-inspiring 1980 season.
